Story Behind the Art:
- This footstool was handmade by local villagers in the Judhpur area, located in the Rajasthan province of India. First, they weave the kilim, making it to the exact dimensions and then upholster onto the handmade sheesham wood frame. The footstool comes with twist-in legs. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. As we grow, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving and furniture production as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the artisans to use in their designs.
